2.31. Check and adjustment of gaps of valves (model of 1998 of release)

GENERAL INFORMATION

Gaps of valves

1. Forward
2. Inlet valves
3. Final valves
4. Forward block of cylinders
5. Back block of cylinders

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect a wire of the minus plug of the accumulator.
2. Uncover the valvate mechanism.
3. Install the N1 cylinder piston in the provision of VMT at the time of a compression step.
4. On models with the 4-cylinder engine install the N1 cylinder piston in the provision of VMT at the time of a step of compression and measure gaps of the specified valves.
5. On the 6-cylinder engine when the N1 piston is in the provision of VMT at the time of a compression step, measure gaps of the valves marked with a letter A, turn a bent shaft of the engine on 240 ° clockwise and measure gaps of the valves marked with a letter B then turn a bent shaft of the engine for 240 ° and measure gaps of the valves marked with a letter C (see rice. Gaps of valves).
6. Measure a gap between the elevator of the valve and a cam of the camshaft by means of a set of probes – if a gap correct, then at extraction of the probe friction has to be felt.
7. On models with the four-cylinder engine when the piston of the N4 cylinder is in VMT at the time of a compression step, measure gaps of final N2 and 4 valves, and also inlet N3 and 4 valves.
8. Adjustment of gaps of valves can be carried out, having taken off a gas-distributing belt or not taking off it.

Operation of adjustment with removal of a gas-distributing belt

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Take off a gear belt and camshafts.
2. Remove washers from elevators of the valves demanding adjustment and measure their thickness.
3. Establish new washers of the required thickness, then install camshafts and covers of bearings. Tighten fixing bolts till the required inhaling moment.
4. Repeatedly check valvate gaps.

Operation of adjustment without removal of a gas-distributing belt

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Turn a bent shaft so that the cam over the valve demanding adjustment was lifted up.
2. Turn the valve elevator a crack to a spark plug. On the 6-cylinder engine turn off internal bolts of extreme covers of bearings of the camshaft (excepting big covers of persistent bearings). On the 4-cylinder engine turn off internal bolts of covers of bearings, the next to the adjustable valve. Establish on covers of bearings a level with a clip and fix it by means of long bolts. Twirl a clip, having lowered the valve elevator down, and get an adjusting washer by means of the small screw-driver and a magnet or tweezers.
3. Measure washer thickness by means of a micrometer.
Calculate the required thickness of a new washer by the following formula:

N = T + (З – P)
where T – thickness of an old washer
З – valvate gap
N – thickness of a new washer
Р – the recommended valvate gap

4. Establish a new washer, and repeatedly check a valvate gap.
